Outgames legacy funding hugely popular

A huge number of applications have been received for the 2011 Outgames legacy fund.

A total of 48 applicants have asked for funds, with the amount requested totalling over $180,000 – over four times the funding actually available.

The committee assessing grants is now working carefully though all the applications.

“The committee has an extremely difficult job,” says Outgames co-chair David Hindley. “Many of the grants are for very well developed projects that would be of great benefit to the community.”

While the vast majority of applications are from New Zealanders, some have also come from places as far away as Samoa, the Philippines and Nepal. (People from all 3 of these countries attended the Wellington Outgames in March this year.)

Decisions about grants will be made and announced before the end of September.
