“Little and often” -
A dentist’s advice

Matt Sumner is often stopped on the street and recognised as someone who is in the scene photos in express. He tells the people who stop him that they’re close, but no cigar. He’s often next to the scene photos, smiling in his plug for business Accent Dental, which he has been the face of for eight years now.

Matt took the business over from a practice that had reached out to the express market and decided to keep the tradition going. Matt says this connection to the GLBT community has given him some of his favourite clients that have remained with him over the years.

“Ponsonby is one of those places that’s very open and accepting of a range of diverse groups and it’s been really great to support this diversity. Just because you’re not part of a certain group doesn’t mean you can’t support it!

“I’ve been introduced to, and lucky enough to build relationships with, a huge number of interesting people over the years. We have clients from the GLBT community who keep coming back and that’s been just great for us. It’s amazing to see the support go both ways.”

When it comes to service, Matt says most people need to be aware of the dentistry golden rule – “little and often”.

“I think the prevention and maintenance message gets lost on a lot of people – they visit a dentist infrequently and need a lot of work done when they do. When we see people regularly, we are able to keep things clean and healthy. It sounds basic but if you can prevent damage happening by regularly seeing your dentist and dental hygienist, you’re going to avoid long, costly visits to the dentist. Little and often!”

To book in for a visit to Accent Dental, visit www.accentds.co.nz or phone 09 376 4374, or visit them at 332 Ponsonby Road. Or maybe even look out for Matt on the street! The smile is recognisable and hard to miss!
