Wellington’s Out in the Square biggest yet

Even the sun was out and proud to be a part of the Out in the Square celebrations in Wellington on Saturday, and as everyone knows, you can’t beat Wellington on a fabulous day!

Steven Oates and Ramon Te Wake hosted the stage to ensure the crowd was well informed about the diverse line up of entertainment. The crowd was estimated at around 15,000.

“Out in the Square 2012 hosted more than 60 stalls, which is a record,” says Out Wellington chairperson Andy Boreham.

True to form for major queer community events, the local politicians were also there to boost the crowd. Wellington Mayor Celia Wade Browne and out gay Wellington Central MP Grant Robertson reminded us that times of celebration are also a time to reflect and remember those we have lost.

Out in the Square is organised by a dedicated group of volunteers, Out Wellington, who meet during the year to plan the event. Andy says the group is always looking for fresh talent to help out with the planning of the event.

“If you think you’ve got a particular talent then we’d love to hear from you!” Visit www.outinthesquare.co.nz for more information.

Cynthia has been with men and women so she has a choice over which label to use and how she leads her life. Some people are exclusively straight or exclusively gay and they don’t have a choice. People who can fall for people of different genders may have more options. That doesn’t mean everyone has a choice.
