GLBT representation in Oscar wins

Christopher Plummer’s Best Supporting Actor gong for his role as an elderly gay man in Beginners wasn’t the only GLBT link at yesterday’s Oscars. Many of the films that won top awards had links to the community.

Here is a short list of GLBT-related wins:

Meryl Streep took home the Best Actress award for The Iron Lady, which was directed by lesbian Phyllida Lloyd.

Octavia Spencer won the Best Supporting Actress award for The Help, which was directed by Tate Taylor, who is gay.

Kirk Baxter and Angus Wall won the award for Best Editing. Their work was showcased in bisexual hacker film Girl With a Dragon Tattoo.

Hugo won awards for visual effects, sound mixing, art direction, sound edting and cinematography. The movie was based on a book by gay author Brian Selznick.
