Oscar win for Beginners star

Veteran actor Christopher Plummer has won an Oscar for his performance in gay film Beginners.

Plummer played Hal Fields, a man who decides to come out of the closet in his 70s after his wife dies. The film’s protagonist Oliver Fields (Ewan McGregor) tells the story of his father’s final years in a loving way, documenting his father’s newfound love for life as a gay man.

Plummer won a Golden Globe for Beginners last month.
