Ripped and rocking – Men of Rock the Ballet

Sometimes a show comes along that is so painfully perfect for express that we beat down the doors of the theatre until we find out how and when we can see it on stage. The absolutely stunning Rock The Ballet is one of those shows.

With shirts ripped open to reveal six sets of ripped abs, the men of Rock The Ballet are about to rock your socks off when they hit the stage of the Bruce Mason Theatre this June.

Versatile and gutsy, these talented performers stretch the bounds of dancing with athletic jumps, endless turns and endearing individuality. The six gorgeous men you see before you take part alongside one stunning woman, who will give the girls a bit of eye candy along the way!

Direct from New York and following on from sell out seasons in Berlin, Hamburg, Vienna and Frankfurt comes Rasta Thomas’ Rock The Ballet starring the Bad Boys of Dance. Rock the Ballet is a fusion of classic ballet technique blended with the excitement of musical theatre, hip hop, tap, contemporary, gymnastics and more.

Having performed more than 1000 shows during sell out seasons across the globe since its inception in 2007, Rasta Thomas’ Rock The Ballet finally hits our shores in June. The show will speak to ballet freaks and newcomers alike by freshening up something many see as traditional and giving a new, zingy edge.

Rock the Ballet features a stellar soundtrack including some of the biggest hits from U2, Michael Jackson, Prince, Queen, Coldplay and Lenny Kravitz. Set against a backdrop of video projected scenery, the show is exciting, fun, fleshy, raunchy, powerful and brilliantly entertaining.

Founder, director and principal dancer Rasta Thomas describes Rock The Ballet as “a new type of ballet for the 21st century and we are calling it pop ballet”.

The Rock The Ballet company includes the talents of New York Fringe Festival dancer, Michael Keefe, Robbie Nicholson from Broadway’s Music Man, award-winning choreographer and director, Adrienne Canterna-Thomas and So You Think You Can Dance US finalists, Karla Garcia, Jakob Karr, Kameron Bink and Kevin Mylrea.

With rave reviews the world over Rock The Ballet will rock New Zealand like never before!

The New York Times wrote: “Rasta Thomas has enormous talent and undeniable charisma”, “Excellent dancers”, “Crowd pleasing”. The New Yorker says, “The Bad Boys of Dance strive to free ballet from its prissy aura… The Bad Boys of dance…are proclaiming loud and clear that ballet is sexy, spectacular, and yes, very masculine”.

With rave reviews pouring in for the “absolutely dazzling dancing” – Boston Globe and “insanely good dancers” – Sunday Herald Sun, you’ll need to snaffle up a ticket to this fabulous show before they’re all gone.
