The final say on whether Auckland Pride will go ahead is still a little down the road, but all signs are positive with Auckland Pride now on the lookout for trustees.
Interim chair Gresham Bradley says the trust deed has been put together and is ready and the next step is to have seven trustees chosen for the board.
“This trust board will have a governance focus – the trustees will not be expected to put festival events together,” he says. “Instead, we want people with legal, financial, accountancy, sponsorship and event management experience to come forward to help shape the governance of Auckland Pride.
“The trust deed also sets out that the trustees be a spread of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and takataapui so the range of gender identities and sexual orientations within our community are represented as best as the trust board can.”
There are a total of seven seats on the board.
“This will be an open, transparent and publicly visible process where the best seven people are chosen for the board,” says Gresham. “We must stress that the Auckland Pride trust board will be run differently from that of Hero and no event organisation will be required from the board. Event organisation will be contracted out by the trust. This will be run like a business, which is what Auckland Pride will be.”
