Fabulous Family Bar is putting together its seventh birthday party, proving that this lucky joint is no house of cards. 

The biggest gay bar on the strip is going a little Las Vegas Strip for this birthday – the entire bar will be decked out in red, white and black casino colours for the occasion. Whether or not you get lucky is up to you!

Drag diva and party organiser Miss Ribena says more than 30 queens from Auckland will take the stage alongside Polly Petrie, a drag artiste who is being shipped over from the Stonewall Hotel in Sydney for the big event.

“We’re pulling out all the stops for this big beautiful night,” says Ribena. “Not even the Tasman Sea can stop us from bringing Family’s best friends together for this event.

“We know it takes a real family to keep a gay bar going for this long and we want to say thank you to everyone who’s come out and supported us for so long.”

All your favourites will take the stage on the big night, Sunday 26 August. Look out for The Divine Miss K, Cola, Fonda Boyz, Venus Mantrap, Buckwheat, Tiffany Rose and more.

If a short Sunday session just isn’t for you, you’re going to want to get your hands on one of two special passes through the door – the VVIP pass (5pm onwards) or the VIP pass (6pm onwards). These passes are a golden ticket to complimentary house beer, wine and spirits – look out for the bubbly flowing and high end nibbles to match! Family will be open to the public from 7pm.

“Looks like Auckland’s bound to have a round of sickies called on Monday the 27th, so start making up your excuses now,” laughs Ribena. “You’re going to want to get in on the surprises, prizes and special guests we have on offer at our lucky seventh birthday, so make sure you pick out something nice and black, white and red and meet us under the 700 balloons on 26 August.”
