Argentina: Gay couple recognised as fathers

Argentina has for the first time officially recognised a gay couple as the parents of a child.

Alejandro Grinblat and Carlos Gustavo Dermgerd have been together for 13 years and have a son named Tobias who was carried by a Canadian woman in India. She was implanted with an egg fertilised by one of the men.

Tobias was born in New Delhi on 29 June.

Argentina legalised same sex marriage two years ago, which included the right for gay couples to adopt.

Dermgerd told CNN, “We try not to care about society’s opinion in this matter and our family and every friend is happy, of course.

Grinblat said, “We always thought about the idea of having a family with children but at the beginning, when we met, we didn’t think that the society was ready for a gay couple to have a kid.”
