Serial conman David Nepia Carroll has pleaded guilty to 76 charges of theft and fraud in Auckland’s District Court this morning, Thursday 10 January.
Nepia committed a series of thefts among the GayStay network, a group of B&Bs owned by gay and lesbian couples, and would earn the trust of the owners before absconding without paying.
He was arrested on 10 August 2012 after he was recognised by the son of a woman he defrauded at the Black Sands Lodge in Piha.
The judge told Carroll that sentencing may be more complicated then it appears, saying that there may need to be multiple sentences for the multiple offenses.
Carroll has been remanded in custody, due for sentencing 19 April.

Hmm. Was the bible used in evidence? Amazing the case would even be heard, as both the plaintiffs and defendent would be viewed as abominations.

We were one of the plaintiffs. In my experience the NZ Police do not discriminate against plaintiffs because we are gay. Quite the opposite. The Police have put a huge amount of work into this case and kept us in touch regularly. We are thrilled the git has been caught.
