Proud but not out says police spokesperson

Proud but not out says police spokesperson

GLBTI police officers have been told that if they wish to march in the upcoming Auckland Pride Parade they must do so out of uniform.

A police spokesperson says “any police who wish to participate in the parade can do so as individuals who pay their own way. Participants will not be in uniform.”

In contrast, the Defence Force peer support GLBTI network, Overwatch group, will be proudly marching in uniform for the first time in New Zealand history.

Very sad. What are those in charge scared of ? This sends a very bad message to LGTBI police and a very bad message to the wider community

Perhaps the Police have a policy against wearing uniform while not on duty.

Perhaps there aren’t any gay police and the police spokesperson is reluctant to show how effective their homophobia has been at driving them out.
