Auckland’s newest Legend

Are you ready? Because we’ve got the exclusive first word on something hot! There’s a new bar and club venue opening on K’ Road and it is going to cater to us.

Legend opens on Thursday 08 August near the K’ Road over-bridge in the space well- known as Club 420 and before it, Sinners. We love a good makeover and this space is looking fab-u-lous! The whole place has been repainted with lots of warm colours in a retro disco theme and the fresh, high-gloss floor adds major glam. New sound and lights are arriving next week and even the toilets have been glitzed up. What hasn’t changed is the million-dollar view overlooking our fine city.

Not to be confused with the previous Legends that gave gay Auckland many happy memories a few years ago, its new namesake is the brainchild of Grady Elliott, who most recently paid his dues working at Family for over three years and knows how Auckland likes to party.

He wants to make sure we have a place to go after work, too, so they’ll be open at 5pm for sunset cocktails in the swanky lounge area. Don’t worry, you can also find your favourite wines or a good pint. Then the music gets turned up at 10pm when Legend becomes a pumped up party running ’til 5am every trading night.

The bar hopes to live up to its name with fantastic acts and shows. You never know who you might see on the giant stage – your favourite burlesque, drag queens, mighty productions and live singers. This stellar line-up kicks off with soul diva Shauna Jensen bringing her legendary presence and voice to the stage on Saturday 10 August. They’re also planning six big theme parties per year and that’s not even counting the New Years Eve extravaganza. Whenever there’s a DJ they’ll be spinning from the stage – and you’ll even be able to text in song requests!

Grady’s making sure a night at Legend is an affordable outing as well, so he’s promising heaps of $5 specials. “The more the community supports us, the better our pricing,” he says, so take your mates and buy them a round.

“The number one thing is that it’s a fun place and that everybody’s welcome. There’s just no baggage. Everyone will have the best night of their lives and still have money in their pockets.”

Legend is located at 373 K’ Road, Level 1 opening Thursday 08 August from 10PM with a sensational kick-off that’ll keep you hopping all weekend long.

Finally a new gay bar, I haven’t been to the clubs for years because I’m over the ones that are on offer. Where is the sophistication? I remember Hydrant was cool
