Auckland’s Ponsonby Road is about to get an enormous splash of rainbow colours with a new GLBTI venue in a former queer space.
Lola Bar/Loco Bar has had a few owners over the last few years but has now been taken back under the careful wing of Wayne Clark of Family fame.
Miss Ribena was gagging to give a little sparkly insight into what to expect with this relaunch: “Get ready for big, brassy, bold and fabulous colours and furnishing – out with the black and white and BOOM, it’s all the colours of the gay rainbow. It’s going to be high camp, disco, retro, old school house with loads of twists and turns. It’s time to have a fabulous presence back on our very own Ponsonby Road with POOF Bar.”
Ribena promises that the music is going to be something for everyone with great DJs on the weekend including Steven Oats, Wanda Lamour and rising star drag DJ Wilma BallsDrop. “It’s going to be a melting pot of entertainment with all sorts of events and parties… it’s endless!”
Is that talk of a bus between the Ponsonby and K’ Road venues true? “Absolutely! Wayne has bought a bus; it’s named the Pink Link (officially called Daisy) and will provide a great service for POOF customers wanting to head to Family.”
The vibrant team have kicked off the remodel, with opening due for mid-late September. Ribena assures us that POOF Bar is going to be here for the long haul and looks forward to everyone being a part of it.
