Traditional Fia Fia nights are one of the great cultural experiences of Samoa. These are performed by professional dancers in traditional costumes of mat dresses and flower garlands. The highlight of the Fia Fia is the Samoan fire dance with spectacular fire-stick handling displays by boys as young as six. The dance routine is performed to upbeat rhythmic drumming, hand clapping and singing. The dance recalls stories from the past; from farewells to loved ones, to great fishing expeditions and war campaigns. This is certainly the prefect way to learn and experience a little of the culture that Samoa is famous for.
Before the dance, an ‘ava ceremony is held to welcome and initiate guests. ‘ava, also known as kava kava, is a traditional drink consumed at all ceremonial occasions across the South Pacific. Drunk in volume, ‘ava is mildly narcotic. The ava ceremony is usually held prior to a Siva which is a Samoan dance and an extension of the welcome.
There is a warm family feeling at Le Vasa due to a lot of local people being employed by the Resort. Their approach is relaxed and informal, not at all commercialised, so guests feel comfortable and as though they’re at their second home.
There is a great selection of comfortable and stylish accommodation; you can opt for an ocean-front fale or a villa and there’s excellent variety amongst the rooms. There is even a rather amazing lagoon water fale that literally floats on the edge of the ocean. All the accommodation options feature queen or king-sized beds, open-beam ceilings, daybeds, ceiling fans, air conditioning and a generous shower. The rooms do not have all the latest technology so it’s a perfect opportunity to literally ‘switch off’ although, if needed, telephone, Sky TV and wi-fi are available at reception and in the resort lounge.
This sanctuary is extremely popular and sought after for weddings and honeymoons so with our recent milestones in New Zealand it might be the perfect location for a little romantic matrimonial bliss and reflection, or it could be on one of the pristine sandy beaches that you propose.
Pack your bags and get ready to spice up your life with a holiday at this secluded oasis where you can marvel at the clear night sky, bask in the firelight, drool at the mouthwatering smell of the umu cooking, and enjoy the birdsong with your loved one amidst the garden of Eden. Visit Le Vasa resort and experience all that awaits you.
