Twitter has suspended Westboro Baptist Church’s twitter account as well as that of its leader, Shirley Phelps-Roeper.
UK website Pink News reports that the radically anti gay hate group’s twitter account was suspended yesterday
It is unclear as to what the reasons are, but the church did picket Twitter at last year, with Phelps-Roeper, from a new account, claiming the suspension was a result of a Westboro Baptist Church picket outside of Twitter in August 2014.
What ever the reason, many GLBT activists see the suspension as a victory.
Late last year the social media site improved its guidelines for reporting abuse and harassment among users after previously facing criticism for not stepping in to stop harassment, with the former system for reporting harassment not seen as being consistently effective.
