EXCLUSIVE: Mika is currently in talks to perform at an alternative GLBT festival in place of Auckland Pride.

Following on from the news that Mika Haka has parted with Auckland Pride, express has learnt that the acclaimed performer is currently in talks to perform at an alternative GLBT festival in place of Auckland Pride.

The event will not coincide with Auckland Pride, however Mika is unlikely to perform at both.

While Mika was unwilling to make any official comment on the matter, he told express readers to “watch this space” with an official announcement expected shortly.

Mika has been actively involved in the last three Auckland Pride festivals, hosting the Waitangi Day dawn ceremonies at the last two Pride festivals  and leading the parade in 2013. Prior to Pride’s creation, he was instrumental in the Hero festival performing at each one since 1991.

It is unclear what shape the alternative venue will take or what Mika’s involvement will be, but he says more details will be known over the next few days.
