Canada will include gay men as part of a refugee plan that puts the focus on accepting women, children and families from Syria.

The Ottowa Citizen reports: “The government is aware that gays could be persecuted, and therefore plans to include them in the selection process aimed at rescuing some of the region’s most vulnerable refugees.”

The guidelines are part of Canada’s pledge to take in 25,000 Syrian refugees by the end of the year.
