Well-known candy company Snickers is partnering up with Gay Star News for a new campaign which is aimed at helping LGBT+ people accept themselves, paired with the slogan, “Be who you are”.

Stories from LGBT+ community will be shared on Gay Star Supporta new part of the Gay Star News website. The stories will showcase how people within the community have overcome adversity that they have faced for being LGBT+, and provide support for those who are yet to do so.

UK Vice President of Marketing for Mars Chocolate, Mitch Oliver, told Gay Star News that ““We want to promote friendship and the support network we all give each other. That’s what the Snickers brand stands for; good friendship, camaraderie and being the best version of yourself,” He continues “We all know Snickers tells us ’you are not yourself when you are hungry.’ Now it will tell us ’your friends will accept you whoever you are, in all your colours.”

Gay Star News editor Tris Reid-Smith says that it will be worth it even if the campaign helps a small amount of people. “..our dream is to inspire everyone to support their friends. That way we can make a real difference not just to LGBTI’s but to the whole community.”
