61.6% of people have voted YES in the Australian same-sex marriage postal survey, it has been announced this afternoon. This is compared to 38.4% of people who voted no.

With over 12 million total votes posted across Australia, there was a 79.5% national turnout according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Nearly 80 percent of 18 to 19-year-olds responded to the survey.

Statistician David Kalisch announced the results and stated that the Bureau provided trusted, relevant and accurate statistics.

Thousands of people gathered in Melbourne at the YES rally, where the Victorian commissioner for gender and sexuality, Rowena Allen told the crowd “We see you rainbow families. We support you, we are stronger when we stand together and we will leave no one behind…”
